Also, we wanted to maintain highway streetability with this truck, so a swap to a three-speed, heavy-duty TH was out of the question. It is essentially a four-speed TH In fact, the rear half of the 4L80E is nearly identical to the TH, and many internal components are interchangeable between the two transmissions.

The only downfall of this swap is that the 4L80E is an electronic transmission that generally requires an additional computer and wiring harness to operate properly. However, the 4L80E can be easily converted to a manually shifted valvebody, which eliminates the need for the computer and much of the electronics and wiring.

The included valve body, pump and internal components are calibrated to work in concert with an aggressive line pressure curve that will greatly improve the overall durability and shift feel of the transmission. Also, the laminated triple separator plate provides dual feed for the 3 rd gear clutch without having to dismantle the transmission. Dual feeding the 3 rd gear clutch triples the torque capacity of the 3 rd gear clutch which is the Achilles heel of this transmission.

In addition, the included highly improved wide land design boost valve and bushing resists wear so that pressure regulation functions consistently for the long haul.
