As some of the other reviews mentioned, the UI is definitely a little clunky especially on big iPad screens—especially the two modal screens you have to go through to choose a specific brush or selection type.

Working with effects When working with effects, there are a couple of useful things to know that will let you maximize your results. Apply effects to a single layer. See Interface overview to learn more about the Tools sidebar. Press the F key on your keyboard. In the list of color adjustments, turn on the adjustments you want to apply. Edit the adjustment settings. Keep in mind that the effects will show on just that layer or layer group to which they are applied.
Click the Add at the top of the Effects pane. Click the Insert Layer at the top of the Layers sidebar and choose Effects. Click the Add Layer in the Toolbar and choose Effects. To rearrange effects, click and drag the effect up or down the list of effects. See Interface overview to learn more about the Tool Options pane.
To preserve layer transparency when filling a layer with a solid color, click the effect name in the Tool Options pane and choose Preserve Transparency. Click the Gradient well to customize the gradient or choose a new one using the gradients palette.
Move the Scale slider to adjust the transition between the colors of the gradient. Move the Angle wheel to adjust the rotation of the gradient. You can also enter a value from 0. Move the Opacity slider to adjust the transparency of the gradient. Click the Opacity Normal pop-up menu to choose a different blend mode.
Move the handles of the effect rope to adjust the position of the gradient. To preserve layer transparency when filling a layer with a transition between two colors, click the effect name in the Tool Options pane and choose Preserve Transparency. Everything from Pixelmator Pro!
All the tools, features, and everything else in the full Pixelmator Pro app is now available in Photos. To do that, open the Photos app and double-click a photo to open it. Then, click Edit in the top right corner, click the three dots, choose Manage, and turn on Pixelmator Pro. To launch the extension, first double-click any photo to select it. Then, click Edit in the top right corner, click the three dots, and choose Pixelmator Pro.
This will bring up the familiar Pixelmator Pro interface. For example, press c to use the Crop tool or k to find the Slice and Export for Web tools. If you choose to do this, the next time you open the same image in the Pixelmator Pro extension, all its layers and other edits will be available to you.
By default, these changes are saved to an associated Pixelmator Pro file in iCloud. If you prefer, you can choose to save these associated files to your Pictures folder instead. If you choose to save the flattened version of the image, layers and other nondestructive data will be discarded and only the final edited image will be saved to your library.
